Barnes & Noble Book Fair August 4-6

We invite everyone to shop at the Barnes & Noble at Mesilla Valley Mall on August 4 – 6, Friday – Sunday, to help us raise money to support library materials and programs.  A percentage of each purchase will become a donation to the Friends and will directly support our local library.  To help us, simply shop at Barnes & Noble during those days and tell the cashier that you’d like your purchase to benefit the Friends of the library.  Our February 2017 book fair raised $2,395.04 for the library.  We’re hoping to beat that number this August!

Friends members will distribute bookmarks to shoppers and offer them an opportunity to win a Super Hero gift basket that will contain a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card, books, and a few other surprises.  Information about the Branigan Library Friends organization will also be available.

Please remind your family and friends to do their Barnes & Noble shopping on the first weekend of August to benefit the library!  It’s a perfect time to get some back to school shopping done as well, and it’s also tax-free weekend! So, make sure to shop at Barnes & Noble that weekend to support Branigan Library.

THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO GAVE TO THE LIBRARY’S MITTEN TREE DRIVE!

The staff of Thomas Branigan Memorial Library (TBML) thanks the community of Las Cruces for donating over 400 items during this year’s Mitten Tree Drive.  From November 28 through December 26, members of the community generously gave mittens, scarves, blankets, sweaters, and bags and bags of other warm clothing items.  All items will be distributed among La Casa, the Community of Hope, and the Gospel Rescue Mission.

The Friends of TBML were instrumental in making this another successful community project when they purchased a taller Christmas tree — 9 ft versus previous year’s 6 ft tree — to hold the growing number of donations every year.  The 2015 mitten tree drive resulted in over 300 items collected.

“This overwhelming support demonstrates the enormous caring capacity of our community to offer a helping hand to children, adults and families.   Our library staff is already looking forward to the 2017 drive to see if 2016 numbers can be topped!” said Renee Frankel, Library Administrator.

ANNUAL MEETING JANUARY 2017

annual-meeting

The Friends of the Branigan Memorial Library invite the public to join us on Thursday, January 19 at 7 p.m. for our annual meeting, where we will approve bylaws and our constitution, elect board members and discuss what the Friends has done to support the public library.  Help us kick off another great year of advocating for and helping improve the library and its programs. The award-winning barbershop quartet the Cactus Chords will entertain us, plus refreshments will be served.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about our organization and get involved.  We look forward to seeing everyone there!

MITTEN TREE CLOTHING DRIVE

mitten-treeThe Friends of Thomas Branigan Memorial Library invites the community to donate hats, mittens, scarves and other winter clothing articles to local residents in need. This is the fourth year that the library has supplied the community with warm clothing from our mitten tree. In the last three years, we’ve donated more than 1,000 clothing items. The tree will be up until Dec. 26. And all clothing items will go to the Community of Hope, La Casa and Gospel Rescue Mission. You can donate items during the library’s regular hours, which are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m – 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday 1 – 5 p.m.

We hope you can help us spread some holiday cheer to those in need! Thank you! And happy holidays from the library friends!
