Want to Volunteer?

Be an important part of the Friends of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library by volunteering at our annual Celebrate Authors event The Celebrate Authors event will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016.  We need people right now to help contact authors and invite them to participate.  We need people to plan for the event, including decorations and refreshments.  And we need people who will serve as hosts the day of the event, welcoming guests and helping the authors be as comfortable as possible.  If you can help, please contact Sue Fletcher at sjfletch1940@yahoo.com or (575) 521-8507. Join the Friends to be contacted about other volunteer opportunities.

Barnes & Noble Fundraiser

Book Fair Fundraiser

Book lovers who visit Barnes & Noble at the Mesilla Valley Mall Friday through Sunday, Aug 5 – 7 will be welcomed by the Friends of the Branigan Library who are staging a special event Book Fair at the store.  Friends members will distribute vouchers to shoppers, providing a portion of each purchase to become a donation to the Friends, and in that way directly support our local library.

Friends will also give shoppers gift bookmarks, as well as an opportunity to win a Curious George basket that would delight any child, plus a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card.  Information about joining the Branigan Library Friends will also be available.

Barnes & Noble was honored for their support of the Friends of the Branigan Library at the volunteer organization’s most recent annual meeting.  Support of both businesses and library patrons is important in retaining and expanding library programs that bring so much to our community.

Library Card Design Contest

Prizes to the Best Library Card Design!

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library is holding a contest to see who gets to design the next youth and the next adult library card from May 1-31st. Judges from the Las Cruces Museum of Art will chose ten finalists for the best library card design and the public will vote on the winning cards from June 20-30th. The winners will have their his/her artwork displayed on the new library cards. Also, the Friends have donated money to give the winner of the adult card a $150 gift card and the youth design winner a $75 gift card and will be hosting the unveiling party for the new card on Saturday, September 10th. Full rules and explanations of the contest can be found on the news and events page of the Thomas Branigan Library website. The deadline for submissions is May 31, so grab your art supplies and begin designing!

Calling all local authors

The Friends of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library invite authors to participate in the Third Annual CELEBRATE AUTHORS event, to be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016. It will be held at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library in the Roadrunner Room, from 2-4 pm.

The Celebrate Authors event is to publicly celebrate the talent, hard work, and achievements of southern New Mexican authors. Booktalks, displays, and book signings by authors will promote the diversity and excellence of literary talent throughout our community. Refreshments will be provided as well.

Authors must be residents of the southern New Mexico region. Books must have been published in 2011 or later (no older than five years.)  Books can be of all genres:  fiction, non-fiction, poetry, a collection of short stories, or children’s literature. Information about the author and the book must be submitted on the application form.

Completed forms should be sent to Sue Fletcher at sjfletch1940@yahoo.com, no later than July 31, 2016. Questions and comments may be submitted to the same email address. Medieval and Traditional Ballads

Join us at Branigan Library for a rare and magical afternoon of Medieval and Traditional Ballads from Scandinavia, Europe, India and the United States in modern arrangements – together with stories, background and history of these songs.  Johanna and Scott Hongell-Darsee relocated from Scandinavia to New Mexico in 2001 and have been performing at festivals and concerts all over the United States.

  • Sunday, April 10th @ 3:00pm in the Roadrunner Room
